Heaven is above.
A pinprick spanning across the surface of the ocean. Here on the bottom, there is so much pressure. So much darkness. Some people evolve to carry the weight, developing eyes that pick up tiny details or scales that made them sink into the black. Ways to make themselves disappear.
I wonder, if they knew that heaven was so close, so genuinely feasible, would they swim up toward it? Or have they lived so long on the ocean floor that they can no longer survive in the light?
For those born in the dark, is it even a choice?
